Cement Creek/Reno/Flag/Bear/Deadman Loop
|
One of the best known and easiest rides to figure out is the Cement Creek/Reno/Flag/Bear/Deadman Loop. This is a one-way-only loop with a high chance of Mountain Bike encounters. These trails are dedicated for all of us, so please be considerate to bicyclists! This is an intermediate trail that is approximately a 1 to 1.5 hour ride. There are many trails surrounding it, so if you so desire you can keep on riding! Take highway 135 north through Almont to Cement Creek Road (this is also Crested Butte South). Once you pass all the houses you can park anywhere you can find a spot. Unload and head up Cement Creek Road #470. At the first intersection (several miles up the road) you will make a right turn on #759 Reno Divide Road. This is a Jeep Road, which you will take to a fence. Once you open the fence (AND CLOSE IT!) immediately to the right is a single track, Flag Creek Trail #422. This will descend down the valley for several miles. You will come to a junction where you will make a hard right and cross a creek. This is another single track, Bear Creek Trail # 415. Follow this trail until you hit another Jeep Road. Make a left turn, this is Reno Ridge Road. Go .7 miles, once the right side opens up there will be a single track # 415, Bear Trail. Take this until you reach Trail # 420, Deadmans Gulch. This will drop you back on to Cement Creek Road with a huge downhill with switch backs and a stream crossing. Everything is rideable, so enjoy and be respectful to hikers, bicyclists, horses, etc. and have fun.
